Why has Google Maps renamed the Gulf of Mexico?

The Gulf of Mexico has been renamed the Gulf of America on Google Maps in the United States.

It comes after President Donald Trump signed an executive order to rename the body of water which is bordered by the US, Cuba and Mexico. It meant US government agencies had to change it, but other countries and companies didn’t have to follow suit. So why has Google made the switch?
