Leopardstown tips: Wingmen fancied to outrun his odds in Leopardstown opener | Racing News

Kate Tracey, Sam Boswell and Declan Rix return in search of winners at the Dublin Racing Festival on the latest episode of Weekend Winners.

In the opening part of the show, the trio preview the opening Nathaniel Lacy & Partners Solicitors Novice Hurdle over two miles and six furlongs. Willie Mullins has a strong chance of success here, with four runners towards the head of the market.

Declan Rix…

“The horse I came down on was Sounds Victorious. I want to see how the market goes but I think this horse will thrive getting back on a proper big galloping track at Leopardstown on some softer ground going up in trip. He was beaten on hurdling debut at Punchestown but that was good ground which wouldn’t have been his bag and then he managed to win at Fairyhouse when him and the second horse pulled miles clear of the third, but again I don’t think Fairyhouse was his track either.

“I loved he changed his legs going to the second last and when [Paul] Townend really woke him up, he awoke the beast. Willie’s horses tend to improve throughout the year and I’m hoping that’s the case here. The jockey bookings don’t suggests he is so watch the market! Given he was fourth in the Champion Bumper last year he has probably been a bit disappointing this season, but I think that’s because he hasn’t had the stamina test which he will get here. If he drifts I wouldn’t be surprised, don’t let that worry you.”

Kate Tracey…

“My horse is still in the bar at 25/1 each-way about Wingmen. What I want is a lot of experience in a race like this. We’re going over 2m6 for Novice hurdlers so I want one who is a bit more battle hardened. We know Wingmen won a maiden hurdle at Navan, winning easily.”

“He was then second at Cheltenham finishing second back in trip in a NH Novices’ Hurdle. That didn’t look to suit him over 2m1 but then he was back up in trip to 2m4 when third in the Lawlors of Naas behind The Yellow Clay – the most talented horse in the race. That form is solid. He doesn’t exactly look like a G1 winner in waiting, but I think he’ll outrun his odds.

Sam Boswell…

“Let’s be honest, this is Willie Mullins’ weekend so who can blame Henry [de Bromhead] and Gordon [Elliott] for not throwing the kitchen sink at this one given the strength in depth that Willie has in his yard. Final Demand was an impressive 7/4 winner at Limerick last time out and the form has been significantly boosted from that race. Of those in the front half of the betting, Final Demand was the obvious one to play. I’m not too keen on Supersundae and Jasmin De Vaux – I’ve been burnt there before – can’t jump.

Final Demand is definitely bet-worthy at 7/4 but my long-shot Mozzie’s Sister is a really interesting runner agsinst the million Mullins horses. Declan Queally is having a fantastic time of things with a really good strike rate at the moment. This horses was beaten 4l by the great pretender at Limerick and I think you can really upgrade that – she was just a bit sticky at the couple of her hurdles. She was only 5l behind the yellow clay which reads well in the context of this race. Final Demand is my bet in the race but I just wanted to highlight her chances.
